Wolf, C., & Floyd, S. W. (2017). Strategic planning research: Toward a theory-driven agenda.
Journal of Management, 43(6), 1754-1788.

This article reviews the diverse body of theory beyond the rational design and contingency approaches that characterized research in this domain until the mid-1990s. The researchers find out the number of published literature about strategic planning despite its important place as a management tool in the contemporary organizations. The authors link strategic planning to organizational performance. Therefore, the authors feel the need for more research.
