How to use scenario planning: Analyzing the post-election possibilities for health reform

The article discusses the use of scenario planning in addressing U.S. health reform. The author presents two sets of opposing possibilities on health reform namely, constitutionality versus unconstitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), and the re-election of U.S. President Barack Obama versus the election of Willard Mitt Romney. Given that PPACA found constitutional and Obama was re-elected, federal and state health insurance exchanges will proceed.

Balanced Scorecard

Relative weighting of common and unique balanced scorecard measures by knowledgeable decision makers

If you are implementing the balanced scorecard (BSC) in your organization, are you sure that you are using it to a full extent? You may be ignoring unit specific data and focusing more on the measures that are common across the different units in your organization just because it is easier for you to do so. The research shows such common-measure bias is very pervasive even when the managers are educated on the theory and the concepts of the BSC.

Transparency Pays Off In 360-Degree Reviews

So much training, so little to show for it: An expert on corporate programs reveals why they often are a waste of time and money

Training is important. We have been saying this. But do you really see that your training works? If not, maybe, some critical factors are missing. Did you make sure if it is the right training you need for the right people? Did you follow up? Is your organizational environment congruent with the training you ordered? Even when you employ training programs provided by external professionals, it is still your responsibility to make sure about most of those housekeeping matters.

According to a nation-wide employee surveys conducted, most of Canadian companies did not bother to implement the evidence-based reliable and valid selection processes recommended by scientific research during the period of 1999 to 2005. There seem to be large gap between the practice in the field and the scientific research. How about your organization? The article suggests use of 360-degree feedback process to enhance team building of diverse teams. The author refers to the study that used 360-degree feedback to facilitate open communication among the team members, and improve the fit or team congruence. The article addressed application of Total Quality Management (TQM) in construction industry today. The analyses concluded the applicability of the TQM elements to the construction industry. However, it must be applied flexibly to meet the unstable state of the industry. Also, partnership and the "Lean" concept are recommended.
